Product Description
Linksys' Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is actually three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

5 out of 5 stars Purchased 4 of these   September 8, 2010
BRB
I have purchased four (4) of these refurbished routers for making a wireless network in a multi-building church complex. Using DD-WRT firmware, has made this device fantastically versatile. I have one set as an access point, two set as a repeater-bridge, and another one set as as repeater. With this setup I cover one city of block of buildings comprised of 3 separate buildings with multiple floors.

I have used 2Wire, D-Link, Linksys, Cisco, Motorola, and Actiontec routers and they all require above average network understanding and knowledge (I have a D-Link Dir-655 at home). I haven't seen a router for newbies to my liking yet. After installing DD-WRT firmware, the Wiki online step by step help for setting up the router for various uses is second to none. Again, this process isn't terribly complicated if a person is willing to read directions and learn as you go. Also, the dd-wrt firmware is extremely stable.

After using the products for about four months, I have no complaints. I believe the value ($30.99), refurbished (known problems fixed), and DD-WRT firmware upgrade make this a good product for the money.

If anyone would like to learn from my experiences in setting up this wireless network (I am not a professional, just a learning amateur), contact me.

5 out of 5 stars Thank God For DD-WRT   September 6, 2010

I don't have anything really to add to the conversation that hasn't already been said by other reviewers. But I can reiterate that DD-WRT is the way to go. I purchased the refurb for 30.99 on Amazon. It came in new condition and everything was there, no complaints there. I initially tried to configure with the Linksys firmware but it was a waste of time. Very slow to update, wouldn't save changes, etc. I had no confidence in it whatsoever. So I went to the DD-WRT site and downloaded their open source firmware based on recommendations from other reviewers. Wow, DD-WRT is fantastic! The configuration page is much more sophisticated and runs really smooth. And the help menus with DD-WRT are excellent as well. I got everything configured on the router first attempt, no hassles. My network has some complexity to it so this is no minor accomplishment. Speed is excellent and so far it's totally reliable. Anyway, for 30.99 I have a blazing fast wireless N router with excellent configuration capabilities. I couldn't be happier with my purchase (thanks to the DD-WRT). I should have done the upgrade a long time ago.

I received the router which is defective. I contacted the seller and requested a replacement with no success.

This router seems to do the job. Most of the house areas seem to be in its range. I haven't tried using my laptop in the backyard or front porch as of yet.
